1 4B ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH Jan. 28, 1987 Battery Charge Filed In Beating Of Handicapped Man In Alton serious charge of aggravated battery John P. Soult, 69; Had Headed Fru-Con Construction Company Attorney Dick Allen of Madison County. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Circuit Judge Paul Riley of Madison County set bond at $2,500, and Shorter was being sought Tuesday. Allen said Tuesday that he would seek a change in the law to make an attack on a disabled person a felony. Attacks on elderly people can be classified as felonies so that the more Shorter and Moyer lived in the same apartment building at the time of the attack, but Moyer has since moved. Moyer has been a familiar figure around Upper Alton, where he picks up aluminum cans for recycling. Residents have helped him set up his own independent can company in recent years.

William C. Shorter 28, of the 900 block of Easton Street in Alton, has been charged with battery in the beating earlier this month of Joey Moyer, who has cerebral palsy. Moyer, 42, was attacked in his apartment in Alton on Jan. 7. Shorter was charged in a criminal information signed Friday by State's can be used, he noted.

Allen said he would ask House Majority Leader Jim McPike, D-Alton, to support a change in the law. Myles McCahill, an aide to Allen, said Tuesday that Shorter had been charged after Moyer wrote out information that led authorities to the suspect. SCHWESER, GILBERT Web Mr. Soult retired Soult in 1983 as chairman of Fru-Con, a St. Louis-based holding company for construction and engineering firms. He had joined Fruin-Colnon predecessor to Fru-Con, in 1939. He was elected president and chief executive officer in 1955 and chairman in 1979.

Mr. Soult later became chairman of Soult a holding company Rev. Henry J. Sutti, 78; First From Boys Town To Be Priest A funeral Mass for the Rev. Henry J.

Sutti, the first resident of Boys Town, to become a priest, will in the communities of Belize City, Corozal, Cayo, Benque Viejo and Orange Walk for a total of 42 years. As a missionary to the Belize, Father Sutti traveled widely through what was formerly called British Honduras. Father Sutti had been associate pastor at the old St. Malachy's Church in St. Louis from 1940-42.

He had taught English, Latin, history and religion in Milwaukee and in Prairie du Chien, Wis. During his training as a Jesuit, he studied at St. Louis University and St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant. He was ordained a priest in 1939.

He went to Father Flanagan's Boys Town in Nebraska in 1920. He has no immediate survivors. be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. today in the Fusz Memorial Community Chapel, 3700 West Pine Boulevard. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.

Father Sutti, 78, died Monday of lung cancer at the Fusz Pavilion Jesuit Infirmary. Father Sutti, a Father Suiti missionary in the Society of Jesus, had retired to the infirmary last year. He went to Belize in 1944 and served Gilbert Schweser; Engineer And Musician Douglas in 1975. He was a saxophonist with Red Nichols in the 1930s and in later years played piano in entertainment spots on the riverfront. Mr.

Schweser was a past president of the Webster Groves Kiwanis Club. He graduated from the University of Nebraska. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three sons, Gordon Schweser of Town and Country, Carl Schweser of Iowa City, Iowa, and George Schweser of Webster Groves; a daughter, Helen Rose of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Lenore Firebaugh of Salt Lake City; and four grandchildren. A memorial service for Gilbert C. Schweser of Webster Groves, a construction engineer and musician, will be at 10 a.m.

Thursday at the First United Methodist Church of Webster Groves. Burial will be private. Mr. Schweser, 75, died Monday at Deaconess Hospital. He had been under treatment for a stroke for about a month.

Mr. Schweser was a construction consultant at the time of his death. He had worked on the Children's Hospi- tal addition and the Edison Brothers Stores main offices. He had retired as head of construction for McDonnell KISTNER, NORMAN B. fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Jan.

Metals Co. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1922. Mr. Shanfeld was a longtime member of B'nai B'rith. Surviving are three daughters, Gertrude Pepper of Creve Coeur, Thelma Kanefield and Sally Yoffie, both of Ladue; two brothers, Louis Shanfeld of University City and Ben Shanfeld of Ladue; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Sister Doralice Rutsch, 81; Taught Music bands in elementary schools from A funeral Mass for Sister Doralice Rutsch, a retired music teacher, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gesu, 11755 Riverview Drive in north St. Louis County. Burial will be in Villa Cemetery. Sister Rutsch, 81, died Monday at the convent.

She had been under treatment for heart disease. Sister Rutsch retired to the convent ivm until sne retired. She taught at St. Dominic Savio in Affton and at Our Lady of Sorrows in St. Louis and also was an organist for several churches.

Sister Rutsch, a native of St. Louis, took her vows in the School Sisters of Notre Dame here in 1927. There are no immediate survivors. "in 1983. She had taught music and led Deaths Elsewhere day in New York.

Mr. Burcham began working for Woolworth in 1931 as a management trainee in Cleveland. He became chairman and chief executive in 1970 and held those positions until his retirement in 1977. WILLIAM DEVLIN, 75, a Shakespearean actor, has died in London, newspapers reported Tuesday. In 1934, when Mr.

Devlin was 22, he thrilled audiences with his portrayal of King Lear. Mr. Devlin was one of the youngest actors ever to undertake a major portrayal of Lear, considered the most difficult of Shakespeare's heroic characters. He alsc won acclaim for his portrayal of Peer Gynt and for his historical roles. PHILLIP J.

DiNATALE, 67, the chief investigator in the Boston Stran-gler case, died Sunday in Sudbury, Mass. Detective DiNatale was assigned in 1963 to head a "Strangler Bureau" to investigate the killings of 13 women in the Boston area between 1962 and 1964. He was credited with culling clues showing that the Boston Strangler was Albert H. DeSalvo. But De-Salvo was never tried for the killings; he was killed in prison in 1973 while serving a sentence for robbery, burglary and sexual assault on four women in an unrelated case.
