For cement, an alkali-resistant primer often is recommended. Also suitable for concrete floors are the rubber -base and similar coatings made expressly for concrete floors. Before any of these are applied, hard and glossy concrete should be roughened with a weak solution of muriatic acid or a specially prepared etching compound available at almost all paint stores. A good trick is to do the job in two operations, painting first, third and fifth steps the first day and the second, fourth and sixth the next day.
