KARST, BETTY, 79, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center; she was born December 29, 1919 in Bloodland, Missouri, a daughter of John Almont and Cora Agnes Haley Pinegar; she was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in St. Louis, Missouri; she was married June 10, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harold Phillip Karst, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1982; she was a homemaker and a dancing school owner and instructor. Mrs. Karst and her husband were the original owner's of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Jefferson City; they had also sold fine jewelry in the St.

Louis area at major retailers in addition to owning their own store. She was a member of the Jefferson City Christian Center; she was a licensed pilot and was a judge for beauty and talent contests throughout Missouri. She is survived by one son, Girard Karst of Jefferson City; two daughters, Lesa Leigers of Jefferson City and Joan Vogler of St. Louis; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by two daughters, Renee' Karst and Judy Karst in 1977; and one brother, James Ancel Pinegar in 1996.
